Chai Match

Overview

JCamp 180 Chai Match challenge grants are offered to camps that have previously participated in Meet Your Match and Create Your Match grants. Camps must apply and be selected to participate in the program. Camps may select the level of participation that meets their fundraising requirements.

Key Guidelines

In Phase 1 (March 18, 2011 through October 18, 2011), each camp raised minimum gifts of $10,000 from donors (up to a $54,000 maximum). These gifts were matched 1:1 by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation to create a pool of matching funds of up to $108,000. Pledges had to be paid in full by March 18, 2012. There was an $18,000 bonus available to one participating camp.

In Phase 2 (ending March 18, 2012), the pool of matching funds of up to $108,000 were used to match 1:3 all eligible gifts of $1,800 or more. Gifts in both phases could come from new or previous donors and from individuals, families (spouse, parents, grandparents, siblings, and children), foundations, or corporations. Gifts from a Jewish Federation or the Foundation for Jewish Camp were excluded.

To be eligible for matching funds, at least one-third of each pledge had to be paid within 60 days of submission of the pledge application to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation; the remaining pledge amount had to be paid in full by September 18, 2014.

Camps must use at least 50 percent of Chai Match funds for capital improvements/facility enhancements, while the remainder is unrestricted and may be used for capital improvements, scholarships, endowments, or annual operating needs.
